Quotes and their meanings to me

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic … There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else." -President Theodore Roosevelt, Columbus Day 1915

Contrary to what people say, you can not be a hyphenated American, you can be proud of your heritage, but if you are an American, you are an American, nothing more.

"As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master." -Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Scientific Survey", Sid Meier Alpha Centauri

If someone sees it fit to keep information hidden after the reason to keep it hidden has passed, they dream themselves our masters. Here in the US, no one is the masters of the United States citizens, except the citizens themselves.

That is not to say that some information should not be classified during, say a black op, then that is reasonable, hell it is reasonable to keep the names of the members of that operation blacked out even after releasing the information of the operation.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin, 1775

This means that none of our essential rights (the Bill of Rights is a good example), even during times of war, should be removed, or even be allowed to be removed for that matter.

"Those who love peace must learn to organize as effectively as those who love war" -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This is self explanatory. If you want peace, then you need to be as organized as those who wish for only war.

---

Si vis pacem, para bellum
Latin for: "If you want peace, prepare for war"

This quite literally means that you may want peace but you should be prepared for the possibility of war.

---

"Be who you are, and say what you feel. For those who mind do not matter, and those that matter do not mind" - Dr. Seuss

Simply means that you should be yourself, regardless of what ANYONE thinks. Because if they have an issue with how you are, then they are not worth your time

All of these quotes have a great meaning and I do hope that you took the time to read them and also took the time to read my comments on them
